Disaster Assistance

Report or communicate or coordinate your disaster situation or condition including the scope, cause and damages with your local, state and federal emergency authorities or apparatus.
Check information including the press, fema.gov etc to find whether your area is a federally declared disaster area or federal government declared your area a disaster zone or area.
Organize your documents such as individual identification, utility bill, vehicle insurance, mortgage company bill, assessors records or building department records, receipts or evidences or proofs etc.
Document or list your belongings including the unmet needs, real estate (if a home owner).
If federally declared disaster contact Fema.gov and/or visit DisasterAssistance.gov or call 800-621-Fema (3362) or 800-462-7585 (TTY) for people with speech or hearing disabilities.
Renew or update your contact information with the emergency personnel
Locate the emergency recovery field offices or centers for assistance.
If you are not confident about going for the assistance yourself or if you need help you can use a reputable or credible non-profit organization, a facilitator such as Red Cross to aid or help you navigate the system.
Look for the proper identification of the disaster inspectors with badge, inspector number and also reconcile or coordinate or validate or match their identification number such as file number, job number or the related assigned to you for this incident with the one on record with the inspector. In other words make sure the disaster inspector knows your assigned number without your help or you revealing the assigned number.
Try to take action, follow through, avoid a downward spiral or slipping through the crack and if worse come to worst, use a facilitator or a go-between because disaster period can be a hard and trying time.
